My name is Sigrid and I am passionate about sewing and photography.
Sewing: I began when I was young, sewing clothes for my dolls and later for myself, when I took sewing lessons for a couple of years. As I grew older, sewing was more in the background but it had always stimulated me and over the years, I started taking sewing lessons again. A couple of years ago, I was given all my grandmother’s fabrics – she also did a lot of sewing being a skilled seamstress – and I started to make cushions for home decoration, using those fabrics and so, SCHINSKI was born.
Photography: I began by taking family snaps, as well as pictures of objects and situations that caught my eye. I really liked taking photographs “in the moment” and that’s still what I enjoy. I joined some photography workshops and undertook a year of training in photography. Following this, I wanted to learn how to photograph the things that really touch me; not by taking a lot of photographs but by learning to see and feel what stopped me. That’s when somebody told me about “Miksang”, which means “the good eye”. This is contemplative photography, where you learn to synchronize eye, heart and mind. I have followed and still follow Miksang workshops by Hèlen Vink, who is a Miksang practitioner, which really resonates with me.
For every item I sell, I plant a tree through ‘Urban Street Forest’. See their website for more information at www.urbanstreetforest.com
